DC Public Library Petworth
A longtime gathering place for the Petworth community, this historic DC library was renovated to better support how people use the space today. Bialek provided furniture throughout the library for adults, teens, and children.
The updated interior creates dedicated areas for reading, studying, meeting, and gathering while preserving the character of the original building. Because the library sees so much daily use, the furniture needed to handle a wide range of activities without making the space feel overly institutional. Different areas called for different solutions, from computer use and studying to group programs and more casual seating.
Durability and maintenance played a major role in the selections. Custom Enwork computer tables were specified with solid-surface tops, while wipeable finishes and faux leather were used on seating in high-use areas. These choices made the furniture easier to maintain while still fitting naturally within the renovated interior.
