Giving Morning Consult’s Furniture a Second Life

As part of Morning Consult’s office relocation in Washington, DC, Bialek Environments helped manage what happened to the furniture they were leaving behind. Working with MillerKnoll rePurpose and Installnet, the goal was to keep as much usable furniture as possible out of the landfill through resale and donation.

The project diverted 57.5 tons of furniture from landfills and reduced an estimated 175 metric tons of CO₂ emissions. A total of 112,500 pounds of furniture were resold.

Another 2,584 pounds of furniture were donated to The Everlasting Joy Foundation in Baltimore. After receiving the furniture, the organization said community members were grateful and excited about the opportunity.

Instead of treating the furniture as waste at the end of a move, the project gave it another use. Some pieces were resold, some were donated, and the overall process helped recover value while reducing the environmental impact of the relocation.
