National Pharmacist Day - Celebrating Our History!
Today we celebrate our pharmaceutical roots in the Healthcare space - - in 1949 we were founded as Bialek’s Medical Art Pharmacy!
Bialek has a long and storied history in Healthcare, starting with our entrepreneurial launch in the 1940s as a DMV pharmacy chain - eventually growing to one of the region's largest! Before furnishing medical spaces, Bialek was an active member of medicine itself, serving families, local hospitals and nursing homes.
Read more about this fascinating past below from our CEO Joan Bialek herself - - who built her family-owned business into one of the region’s largest office furniture companies.
Since 1949.
Sam Bialek, my father, opened his first pharmacy in 1949 - his brother Ted, joined him 11 years later. Both pharmacists, they grew the practice together! The pharmacies were professional apothecaries-only selling medicine. Bialek’s Medical Art Pharmacy would become the largest chain of professional pharmacies in the DMV area.
What made their chain of pharmacies unique is that they would fill compound prescriptions (those that needed to be mixed on premises) and they were among the first to develop generic medicines!
They even had a fleet of VW bugs that would deliver prescriptions, free of charge, anywhere in the DC metro area-the same day - it was a groovy operation!
Eventually, Bialek’s Medical Art Pharmacy had satellite pharmacies at both the World Bank and the National Geographic Society, filling all of their requests for travel medications.
Though we've come a long way from our drugstore days, our commitment to remaining Pioneers in the Healthcare industry has remained.
Bialek is a leader in healthcare-design, serving every corner of Healthcare facilities: from clinics and laboratories to patient and administrative areas - and yes...even pharmacies!
Our research-driven, problem-solving approach has demonstrated our commitment to the healthcare industry because we solve problems for people— their health and wellbeing, safety, productivity, comfort, and enjoyment.
